369 Stewart Street provides rent geared to income housing for 8 women with on-site supports. We work with women as individuals and as a community, providing support to access a range of services. This is not permanent housing: women live at Stewart Street for approximately 1-2 years before moving onto independent housing.
In this housing we work with women to access a range of support including education, training, and employment opportunities. We promote the development of life skills and peer mentoring relationships, improving self-esteem. We work with tenants to develop a supportive community, providing a range of community programming that is led by the tenant group.
The service is delivered in the following ways:
- Housing support: while we work with tenants holistically to address any presenting problems, this service specifically supports women to develop the independent living skills they need to move into independent housing.
- Structured programming: While we address individual issues and employment needs, tenants also learn to support and mentor each other.
We house women in this project; however, this does not preclude men from visiting the building unless the community decide that they do not want male guests. It is for women who want to live in a primarily women only environment.
